By Mike Sachoff

At the PubCon session "Startup Costs-Getting in the Video Game" the panel discussed the process of adding video you your site.

WebProNews is at PubCon 2007 in Las Vegas, bringing you the latest in web marketing.

Mike McDonald, managing editor of WebProNews said when getting started in video to consider what kind of formats, resolutions, platform for the video player and content management system to use to sort videos.

Formatting is trail and error and you want to have many formats, the most common, most popular along with offering multiple sizes.

On the subject of embedding video he said it was going to be easier to let other people use your videos.

Robin Liss, Founder and President, Camcorderinfo.com said video had to be interesting. To get started in video you should consider:

Picking a camcorder
-stabilization, bags, batteries
-audio equipment
-lighting and sets
-filming tips
-video editing and graphics

Also consider these important factors:
-budget
-video and low light performance
-format/HD
-audio quality and expandability options
-manual control
-handling
-editing workflow

She recommended going to retailers such as Best Buy or Circuit City to test cameras and to find out what you are comfortable with. Make sure the camera has a mic jack, if it does not the quality will be low. You can do more research by reading reviews about cameras. Most camera mics are horrible and if you buy one thing, purchase a tripod, she said, "No one likes earthquakes."

When filming use a variety of shots, wide angles, close ups along with graphics. Music is also good to use but make sure you have the rights. Use your site name or logo for branding and put it in the intro of the video or in the corner of the video. Using the site name is better than just the logo as people will remember it more.

Make sure to write down people's names when you shoot video and for studio work, teleprompters are a great investment.

Brett Tabke, CEO of WebmasterWorld.com said to consider the physical appearance of the camera. If you are shooting in a studio the appearance doe not matter, but at conferences larger cameras have a little more bling factor and give you credibility.

Do a lot of research when considering what mic to buy. Don't just get a cheap one expecting it to be like any other one.

When it comes to talent its hard to find and highly competitive with a high turnover rate. It's also expensive if you hire highly qualified help. The most expensive thing is finding someone who can edit videos well.

You should understand how much overhead there is learning about video. Be careful not to just throw more and more money at video.

He said YouTube is great for "how to" videos and has lots of information about videos and cameras.
