1. Facebook If you have not heard of it, and worse yet if you are not on it, you just don't have a chance to keep up with the competition. Chances are, your competing brands are on the mega power social media site and if you are not, well, I would rather not mention what the consequences will be for you business wise. Facebook isn't just for individuals anymore. Yes, there are still the occasional peeps that really say, "I like Facebook to keep in touch with mom and grandma," but most people do like to check out their favorite brands and businesses too...this is 2010 not 2008.
If you are a serious facebook user, you should have noticed by now you get "suggestions to become a fan" more than once a day. This is the power of the individual businesses saying, "hey, we want you to stay in touch with us and we want to let you know what we are doing around the clock."
2. Seesmic desktop or Monitter or Tweetdeck or something like that. As an entrepreneur, you need to know what people are saying about your brand as well as your competitors. You have to install a service that monitors Twitter and Facebook mentions in real-time in a multi-column interface (if you are a true entrepreneur, you should be familiar with TweetDeck) at least by now you should have heard about it. Input a search term into a column, add or remove columns, get an auto-refresh of what people are saying about your brand or competing brands on your desktop.
3.YouTube The best online business presence you can have is to make use of a variety of tools available, and this includes YouTube. Not only has it made it's mark as the world's largest video sharing site, but through time and time again, video marketing has proven itself as one of the most effective ways to market products online.
The power of video brings a visual and an interactive element into your company's marketing campaign, which is hidden with a static website.
TIPS: Don't just post your videos on YouTube. Anything that you're putting on YouTube should also be hosted on your own website somewhere. We all know how important it is to have content on our websites and videos are really good content.
Remember to provide real value. The same rules apply content through video as well as written, and that is that you should never try to trick, manipulate, or hard sell your customer, but provide them with something that is actually real, true and useful.
Have great headlines. Just like the old black & white newspaper (LOL) the reader only buys what catches their eye on the front cover, a great headline will get a viewer to give attention to the full content, in this case, listening to you on social media sites.
When using facebook, please know the difference and educate yourself on the differences between a group, a page and an individual personal account. If you are not familiar, pick up a how to guise, take a class, or talk to someone like me :) (check out my recommendations below from Amazon)
When all else fails, keep pushing. Eventually, with the right tactics and perseverance, your product and/or business will get noticed.
